Von Hertzen Brothers and the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation have launched a joint campaign combining music, art and nature conservation to protect the forest area of southern Finland.
The campaign is spearheaded by Von Hertzen Brothers ’eighth album ‘Red Alert in the Blue Forest’, due out on 18th March.
The Blue Forest Campaign will begin with an art auction inspired by ‘Red Alert in the Blue Forest’. The album’s musical world has been interpreted by 12 domestic visual artists who have each made a track from the album into a work of art according to their own vision.
The artists participating in the Blue Forest art exhibition are Ville Tietäväinen, Samuli Heimonen, Heikki Willamo, Katariina Souri, Manuela Bosco, Jarmo Kukkonen, Milla Paloniemi, Sampsa Sarparanta, Rosa Liksom, Minna Pyykkö, Jaakko Mattila and Markku Hakuri.
The works of art will be auctioned online with bids starting on March 13th and closing on March 31st at 11:59pm. Proceeds from the auction will be directed in full to the acquisition and protection of the Blue Forest.
“We are very concerned about the loss of Finnish forest biodiversity. Less than 3 per cent of the forests in southern Finland are protected and scattered in small fragments. It is hard to believe that this is a good and sustainable situation. That’s why we felt the urgent need to do something as a band and invited the artists we knew and appreciated to start raising funds together with the Natural Heritage Foundation to protect the largest possible strip of untouched, significant and diverse forest” say Von Hertzen Brothers of the campaign.
“It is great to involve cultural figures like Von Hertzen Brothers in nature conservation and to awaken people to protect forests through music and art,” says Pepe Forsberg, Executive Director of the Natural Heritage Foundation, and continues: “It would be great if there was a varied forest in the area and even a pond or spring. That kind of murky Blue Forest atmosphere.”
In addition to the auction, it is also possible to participate in the campaign directly by donating on the Natural Heritage Foundation’s Blue Forest campaign page:
