IN MURMURATION – The new album is out!
Hi guys!
Today we can congratulate ourselves on another newborn baby, our ninth studio album, ‘In Murmuration’. We are very much aware of how different it is energy-wise to the previous release and, thus, it might take a few spins for you to get into the mood. We hope you have the patience and open-mindedness to do so.
Today, I wanted to write a few words about the making of the album. I can’t remember a more DIY project than this in the recent history of VHB. Maybe the making of ‘Approach’ back in 2005 comes close but a lot has happened since…
We started the project of ‘In Murmuration’ already in 2022 when RAITBF had been out a few months. First it was all about collecting our thoughts and bouncing back from the Blue Forest campaign (which was a very time consuming and massive ordeal right after the album release), but very soon it turned into a song writing frenzy with a nice new vibe to it. We re-visited some of the ideas, riffs and lyrics that one of us had written in the past few years and took it from there. The new songs started taking shape. In early 2024, after the acoustic tour of 2023 and the subsequent change in the band’s line up, we were quite hyped to get started with the recordings. We recorded, edited and self-produced all of the songs here in Viikki at our band’s rehearsal room and Kie did some of his guitars at home. The whole thing felt very dynamic and we were often simultaneously working in three (or even four) locations at the same time. Jonne was creating synth sounds at his desk upstairs and Mikko was in his “container cave” recording guitars and vocals. Kie was doing his magic at home with a bunch of guitar equipment on his dining table and Markus kept on sending us files from his studio in Tampere. It was a hassle keeping track of everything and merging the ideas nicely together. Long gone are the days when a band could rent a studio for weeks and just go step by step tracking instruments one by one… No sir, on this album we recorded four things at the same time and then tried to come up with the missing pieces for the puzzle as we went. But it was crucial not to overdo it this time. We have been notorious for putting too many ideas in our songs but for this album, we wanted to keep it simple, punchy and rocking.
We hope you enjoy the album and are looking forward to the gigs. We already started rehearsing and arranging these songs for the shows and I have to say they feel very fresh and fun. Just the way we wanted it to feel.
I know I’m repeating myself, but please share the music with your friends if you can. That helps the band immensely!
With all our love,
Bros
